Within the framework of the Tourism Sustainability Plan in Destination of Orihuela, the City Council launches the contracting of the installation of sustainable urban drainage systems (SUDS) in Orihuela coast.
The objective of the action is to discharge part of the water that reaches it from runoff from the California Avenue basin, reducing the risk of flooding downstream, having a SUDS available on the islet of Paraná Street with California Avenue.
This SUDS will consist of the execution of a filtering trench on the margins of the islet that will progressively drain the circulating water to the rainwater collector of Paraná Street, whose beginning is located next to the future SUDS. A rain garden will be arranged on the island, which will accumulate part of the rainwater by making a depression in the island, facilitating the surface storage of runoff.
Along with these direct benefits of SUDS on rainwater management, there are other additional benefits as they favour the incorporation of green areas in cities by attenuating the heat island effect, improving air quality and capturing part of the CO2 generated.
The budget assigned to this contract amounts to € 174,000.00 and its duration will be 4 months. The project is covered by the subsidy received from the Ministry of Industry and Tourism within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, financed by the European Union, Next Generation EU.
